Saint-Paul de Vence is a wonderful medieval village full of historic tenements and surrounded by a thick stone wall. This unique village lies near Nice on the French Riviera. Centuries ago it was a border settlement; and after the First World War it was discovered by artists.
Marc Chagall, among others, lived here and is buried in the local cemetery just outside the city walls. There were film stars like Greta Garbo and Catherine Deneuve who came here, and Picasso decorated the walls of the restaurant and hotel La Colombe d’Or in exchange for lodging and food.
Saint-Paul de Vence is the perfect village for a romantic walk and dinner under the open sky. But you can also come here just for a small espresso, which you will drink in the shade of old trees to the sound of a Pétanque game.
